Hunter Hunted
I think by now you already have an idea on how easy it is to conduct a people search or background check on the Internet. There are many databases with varying degree of content credibility that could greatly help the endeavor of a budding private investigator. But how do you safeguard yourself from being hunted while hunting?
The last tip that I gave you was the most important one – know the name of the person that you want to investigate and ascertain at least a few details about him. Looking for a person on the Internet is as easy as typing his name on a search engine. However, you must sort out the worthless from the valuable, and the insignificant from the relevant ones.
Before you begin your hunt, you must take some precautionary measures in order that you won’t become the hunted at some point in your investigation. Indeed, you wouldn’t want the person you’re investigating to know that you’re locking in on him.Unfortunately, there are many ways by which a person could know that he’s being watched on the Internet. Amateurs and casual private eyes usually check Web sites that contain millions of personal profiles from its members. I’m sure you’re familiar with My Space and Friendster. Members fill out their pages with personal information, such as their address, birth date, and occupation. It’s essentially a stalker’s paradise. You’ll probably be checking these sites when trying to conduct a background check on a person. However, be careful when checking the pages of the persons in these social forums. For one thing, there’s an option or feature which allows the owner of the page to know who has viewed him. This would only be possible though, when the one looking at the page has an account and uses the same to check the profile of the other members. So before you go to these public or social Web sites, make sure that you’re viewing anonymously or are using a bogus account. If you have a Friendster or My Space account, never ever use them to investigate the profile of another. Take note of this tip every time you investigate. You might find yourself as the one being investigated if you’re careless.
