Take a Tip

If you’ve been following the articles that I’ve written since my blog’s inception, then you probably know by now that you don’t need a magnifying glass, cloak, and a silly hat to be a private investigator. I guess I’ve already emphasized enough that the task of a private eye mostly involves rummaging through papers or databases containing information about the person you’re checking on. But how do you really deal with all the heaps of information right in front of you?

You probably have an idea or two on how to look for these data. However, the question that probably keeps playing in your mind is where to look. I believe I already gave you a few tips on where to look. I’ve said before that Google could be a good start, or that My Space and Friendster might be worth looking into. They’re good sources of information, but sometimes unreliable, especially on the latter two since the information therein are just placed by the page owner himself. It’s not a public registry so there’s no prohibition in typing in facts or data that aren’t true.I won’t go into details on where to search for personal data for now. You’ll just probably get confused if I bombard you with tons of information about the matter. Instead, I’ll do you a favor by just summarizing what I’ve said into three, easy-to-remember tips on where or where not to search for information about a person. Here they are:

  1. Be careful when searching for a person in Google. Many of the Web’s search engines are not built to sort out people and information about them.
  1. Be wary when relying solely on information coming from My Space, Friendster, or other dating or social sites. The data entered therein are sometimes either false, exaggerated, or inaccurate;
  1. Rely more on public records. Although the details in public documents are also provided for by the person named therein, they are more constrained to state or write the truth since they’ll be liable for perjury or falsification if they enter false information.
