Find Vital Info Online without Anyone Knowing that You Did a Little PI Work

Everyday more and more people are learning about the possibility of searching vital info online. This amazing new tool gives you, the average Joe, the ability to find out everything you need to know about someone, just like your own detection agency.

Who uses vital info searches?

Anyone that wants to know someone better. This way you know exactly what you are getting into before you start. Whether you are hiring a person, beginning to date someone, or just curious about some neighbors, the information allows you to know someone much better.

Can’t I just ask them about their past?

You could ask people, but people lie. They may not tell you everything you want or need to know about their history. A guy you are dating may not want to tell you he is married. A babysitter may not want to tell you that they have three DWIs. However, this is all things you need to know before you get involved with the person.

Isn’t looking at someone’s public records nosey?

You can call it nosey but these documents are part of the “public record.” That means it is no longer their private business. It is out there for everyone to see, if they want to look for it. Just because others may not look, does not mean I am being nosey.

Besides, when their past affects my future, I have a right to know. I have the right to know if my neighbor is a sex offender. I have a right to know the person I am dating has a history of domestic violence. Not only do I have the right, it is part of my children’s and my safety.

Won’t they find out I did a people search on them?

A good database will offer you the security of searching without fear of being caught. They will protect your private information so no one will know who or what you searched for. When you do go look up court records, divorce records and such, always check the site to make sure they respect your privacy. There is no reason the person has to find out you looked.

Can’t someone look me up as well?

Absolutely, many times people like to look up themselves in the database. They get a kick out of seeing what the database pulls up. They also like knowing the accuracy of the database. Remember, all of the information is public. That means if you pulled it up so could someone else.  See what vital info is out there on you. You just might be surprised at how detailed the reports are.

Protect Your Identity and Find Lost Loved Ones with an SSN Search

Many people mistakenly think that an SSN search is only for those conducting business. In fact, a SSN search is beneficial to a wide range of people, including you. Since your social security number is an essential part of how the world sees you, it is important to search yourself to find out what is out there.

The information contained in social security records is invaluable. Not to mention, it is also a good way to protect yourself against identity theft.

How does a Thief Steal Identity with a Social Security Number?

A thief who knows your social can easily steal your identity. By knowing some basic information about the victim, the thief can use that as proof they are the victim. Once they have your personal information, the thief can then claim with proof, they are who they are claiming to be. The victim has no way of knowing their identity is even compromised.

Protect your ID with Regular Monitoring

Your best protection is vigilance. If you regularly monitor your SSN records, then you will know immediately when someone tries to steal your identity. The second they open a bank account, you will know where they are and what they are doing. There is no better protection against identity theft than catching it before it starts.

How Else Can a Social Security Search Help?

Since the social security number is directly related to a given person, it is easy to track someone through the social security number. Even after a person dies, the social security number is updated. Many professional and amateur genealogists use the Social Security Death Index (SSDI) to trace records of the deceased.

The SSDI contains the basic information on the person. Looking through it, you can find:

  • Name
  • Birth Date
  • Birth Place
  • Place of Death
  • Date of Death
  • Last Known Address

This is great information for anyone trying to trace lineage or find family. Once you have a name, date of death, and place of death you can easily find obituaries that list surviving family members. Of course, you can search death records without all that information but it does make it easier.

Curious about your social security number? You can conduct your own SSN search now and find out what information is out there about you. You might be surprised by what you find.

4 Ways to Search for Adoption Records

At some point, most adopted children want to locate their birth parents. For many, this means searching adoption records. However, with privacy laws the way they are, many adoptees have no idea where to start. Below are some tips to get you looking in the right direction.

Requesting Nonidentifying Information

Almost every state has procedures for accessing nonidentifying information. In many cases, the information is given to the adoptive parents at the time of adoption. The information is generally accessible to the adopted child once they become an adult.

You will need to contact your state agency that holds the adoption records. You can find out who this is in your state by searching the Child Welfare Information Gateway’s National Foster Care and Adoption Directory.

Requesting Identifying Information

Most states have procedures set up to release indentifying information. However, every state varies on how they release the information. You need to contact the state agency dealing with adoption records to locate the information. However, once you have the information you can quickly contact the other members of the adoption.

Generally, the laws require one of the following:

  • Consent on file from all parties involved in the adoption.
  • An intermediary to gain consent from all parties

Search for the Original Birth Certificate

Once the adoption is finalized, a new birth certificate is issued and given to the adoptive parents. At this point, the original birth certificate is held by the state agency under privacy laws.

While you used to need a court order to get the original birth certificate, 24 states no longer require this information. In these states, you will need one of the following:

  • State adoption registry to get access
  • Consent on file from all parties
  • The adoptee must be a minimum age (18 or 21)

Search Online for Adoption Records

This is the simplest way to find birth parents. Anyone can go online and search through adoption records from the privacy of their own home. The database allows you to search thousands of records from across the country without a court order or an intermediary.

Once you find the information you are looking for, you can do a people search on the same database to locate a telephone number, address or place of employment for the person. Searching adoption records online is by far the easiest method. Start your adoption records search today and see what you can find.

Find Court Judgements Anonymously

When doing criminal background checks or searching through various other records, you may come across court judgements. This happens quite frequently when you are trying to find adequate help, especially since you will always want to run a background check on babysitters, nannies, housekeepers, or anyone else that enters your home.

Of course, you can run a check on anyone you like. Some people look up neighbors. Others look up the records to find judgments against exes. Since they are so easy, people everywhere are looking them up.

Background checks are simple to perform
Once online, you can find several companies that will provide a background check for a fee. This is great since you used to have to hire a private detective to do these kinds of checks. Now, you can do it all online if you have enough personal information on the potential applicant.

The more information you have on the applicant, the faster and the more reliable your results. You will want a first and last name at the bare minimum. Birth date and previous last name is also helpful. If you can get a social security number, then that is even better.

What you can expect to find with a criminal records lookup?
The criminal background check should give you basic information such as the person’s home address. It will also give you some basic family information, schools, and some previous employers.

Of course, any criminal history will also turn up. Both major and minor criminal offenses can show up as well.

Is it legal to do a people search on anyone?
Since so much information is out there, it is only natural to think it can’t be legal. This is not true. It is perfectly legal to search the criminal background of anyone you choose.

  • If you have a neighbor that acts a little shady, then check them out.
  • If you want to know about the handyman coming into your house, then check them out as well.
  • Someone you know dating a creep…check them out.

Word of warning on criminal background checks
Once you search, you find out information you may not want to know. It happens that people do a “curiosity” search on a boyfriend, girlfriend, or spouse and find out things they wish they didn’t. These files are very thorough and very accurate.

If you do not want to know the background information, then please do not search. However, if you do want to know everything, then by all means start searching and see what court judgements turn up.

How to Use a Probate Search in Genealogical Research

Whether you are trying to find a long lost relative or trying to fill out the family tree, a probate search may be the answer you are looking for. Many people search birth records, marriage records, and divorce records but they forget about the probate records. This one simple tool can give you more information than you think. Here’s how.

Why Bother with a Probate Search?
What people do not realize is that the probate records contain more than just the property records. It actually tells you who the estate was given to and who thought they had a claim. That means you now get lots of names you may not know existed.

If a Will is involved, then you see who the deceased thought was important. The Will can include more than just immediate family. It may include cousins, aunts, friends and anyone else. Search through these names and you might find a family connection.

Sometimes, people are not included in the Will. They can file a claim with the court as well. These people are also included in the probate records. So not only do you see who the deceased thought was important, but you see who else thought they should be included.

Where to Begin with a Probate Search
The easiest place to start is online. You can search through the records online before ever reaching a courthouse. Unless you need an official copy, there is no real reason to go to the county court.

You will need the name of the deceased (decedent) to search online. If you know the state and county, then this will make searching online easier. However, this information is not necessary.

What to do with the Probate Information
You did the search and now you have all this information. Unfortunately, you do not know what to do with it all. It can be overwhelming but here are some tips on what to do next.

  • Birth Records Search – The first thing you want to do is search the birth records. This way you can get an idea if they belong in the family tree. Not everyone listed, will be part of the family.
  • Divorce Records Search – Once you find a member of the family, search the divorce records. Divorce records will list the spouse and any children.
  • People Search – The probate records will list the name and address. Conduct a people search to locate members and find out what they know.

You can start your probate search now and start filling out that family tree tonight. It is simple and easy.

How to Investigate your Nanny or Babysitter using Court Information

Personally, I know four people expecting babies in the next couple of months. As my personal gift to all of them, I am searching through court information for them. Now, some may wonder what babies and court information may have in common, but it all comes down to safety.

Court Records Search for Child Safety

When the baby is born, every mother I know will need to go back to work. This means that they will need someone to watch the baby. We do a variety of checks to make sure the babies are in the best of care while with the babysitter.

How to Investigate a Nanny/ Babysitter

You will need:

  • First, get the full name and any previous names of the babysitter.
  • Ask for a birth date as well.
  • If you feel comfortable, ask for the social security number. (While not required, it does make checking easier.)

Criminal Background Check:

You will want to start with a criminal background check. This way you can find out immediately what kind of past your potential sitter has. Personally, I do not eliminate nanny’s and sitters just because they had something on their record. However, if they have a history of shoplifting, then I am careful not to leave them in my house.

Driving History Check:

If you plan on letting the sitter take your baby anywhere, then you will definitely want to do a driving history check. You want to know if they have speeding tickets or have a large amount of accidents. Again, I don’t disqualify a person based on one accident but I do check.

Employment Check:

Many people skip over this step thinking it is unnecessary. For me, I want to know what kind of work history this person has. Do they tend to flop around jobs at will? I want someone to stick around with the children and not someone that is flaky and can leave at the drop of a hat.

Verifying References with Checks

Since references can easily be faked, I do reverse phone look-ups to see where the number comes from. I want to see if the name matches the one given. Cell phone records may be on a family plan but even this should tell you something. The numbers should be different and not all connected to the same person. I then do a quick search on the person to see if the information matches what the reference says. They couldn’t watch someone’s kids if that person does not have any kids.

You too can search court information and find out everything you need to make sure the Nanny or sitter is safe. The searches are completely confidential and can be done in the privacy of your own home.

4 Common FAQs about a Court Lookup

Whether you are doing a court lookup for fun or for legitimate reasons, there are always some questions that are asked. Everyone needs to know the basics of court records and here you will find that information to get you started in your records search.

What can be found in court records?
While the information will vary depending on the records found, generally you can expect to find the following.

  • List of involved parties including the plaintiff, defendant, and attorneys
  • Attorney Records
  • Civil Court Filings
  • County, State and Federal Court Record
  • Court Dockets and Transcripts
  • Bankruptcy
  • Probate Records
  • And More

Who Searches Through Court Records?
While some people do it for fun or just to be nosy, there are legitimate reasons to search through court records. Some of those reasons include the following

  • Researching family roots (genealogy). Court records especially marriage and divorce records help trace back family ties and find lost loved ones.
  • Researchers do court look ups to find transcripts for cases they are interested in. This way books and movies come out as accurately as possible.
  • People effected by adoption search through court records in an attempt to find the biological parents and the children they gave away.

Do You Need a License to Search Court Records?
It is a common and yet still mistaken belief that only police officers and detectives can search court records. Most court records are available to the public through the Freedom of Information Act.

The misconception comes from the lack of access to such records. Police officers and private eyes do have access to multiple databases for searching. However, so does the average person. Using online searching tools, you can search through court records just as effectively as a private eye or a police officer. No special license or permit is needed.

Where is the Best Place to Search Records?
Obviously, you could go to the courthouses to find the records but this would take hours and lots of driving. Not to mention, this method also means standing in line and waiting for someone else to search for records.

It is much easier and more efficient to use online databases. Through the high power search engines and wide databases, you can find court records in the privacy and comfort of your own home. No need to run all over town or wait for people to find the records you need. Best of all, no one needs to know you are looking.

You can start your court look up right now just by entering a name. Enter yourself and see what comes up on you.

How to Conduct a Discreet Adoption Search when Emotions are on the Line

An adoption search can be both emotional and trying experience for many people. It is full of questions, concerns, and many times anxiety. The thought of looking for birth parents is often exciting but is also coupled with guilt. No one wants to betray the people that raised them by searching for their “real” parents.

However, the draw to locate the biological parents is still there. This is where online searches are beneficial to those wanting to locate birth parents without causing undue harm to those they love.

Benefits to Online Adoption Search

Guaranteed Privacy
First, searching online has the added benefit of complete privacy. No one needs to know that you are even looking. If it would hurt those around you, then they do not need to know you are looking. You will only need to tell them if and when you find information on your birth parents.

Quick and Easy Access to Thousands of Records
There is no need to drive all over the country looking for birth records and adoption papers. You can sit in the privacy of your own home and look for the records. Online databases will carry records from across the country. The Internet brings it to your home. As long as you have a computer, Internet access, and a credit card or PayPal, then you can access the database from anywhere at any time.

Access to Multiple Records
The best part of searching online is that you can check other records as well. Once you do locate your birth parents, you can do some research on the type of people they are. You can do background checks, employment checks, criminal checks, divorce records, marriage records and more. You might decide it is better to contact a sister or brother first. You might decide you do not want to contact them at all.

Whatever you decide once you have the information is up to you. The best part about Internet adoption searches is you have the option. No one needs to know that you are searching.

If you decide you don’t want to contact your birth parents, then no one was hurt and no one ever has to know you looked. If you do decide to contact them, you know what you are getting into before you pick up the phone. However, you can’t find your birth parents until you start your adoption search. You won’t know until you try.

How to Conduct a Birth Records Search

When you first start your birth records search, it can be quite overwhelming. Ads start popping up saying, “Free Birth Records, Birth Records Database, and Vital Records.” You start clicking around and before you know, there are 50 results with your name. All you wanted was to help your kid with a school project and while you were at it build a family tree.

The commercials on TV make it look so easy. It really is. Take a deep breath and you will see for yourself that finding some birth records online is simple.

Vital Records Search (Court Records)

Vital records are all your public records. This is where you will find marriage/divorce, birth/death/adoption, criminal, and property records. You will start your search for any type of genealogy search here.

Don’t let all these overwhelm you, as you do not need them all and many overlap. For example, for every divorce record there is a corresponding marriage record. Therefore, you don’t need to look up marriage records if you have a divorce record because obviously the couple got married. The same goes for a death record. If a person died, then there has to be a birth record somewhere.

Conducting a Birth Records Search Online

When it is time to conduct a search online, it is best to pick a database that has all these records in one spot. It will make searching easier. Since documents are not easy to locate, a site that has multiple databases will give you a better shot of finding at least one record.

Once you input the name, be prepared for multiple results. This is common, as more than one person will have the same name. You will then have to narrow down the list by city, state, or possible age.

Finding Birth Records Using Other Public Records

Unless you need a birth record, birth records are not an efficient means to tracking down relatives. However, this is how many people try to create a family tree. By the time you have enough information for a birth record, you know enough to move on. The birth record only tells you the name of the parents.

However, if you use birth records to search for marriage and subsequent divorce records, you can hit the jackpot. Divorce records lists all the names and ages of children from the marriage. This builds your family tree fast. Therefore, I highly recommend searching divorce records whenever possible.

All you need to search birth records, marriage records, divorce records, or any other public records is a computer. Take a deep breath and start a birth records search today. It is fast, fun and easy.

3 Mistakes People Make Looking for Birth Records Online

Thanks to the ease of searching birth records online, many people have taken up genealogy. This is wonderful and it has helped thousands of people trace their roots back generations.

In fact, just recently my family connected with a cousin who did not think he had any living relative left. Not only was our very large family thrilled to initiate another member to the clan, but also this lost member was overjoyed. He went from having no surviving family to literally hundreds of family overnight. That is what happens when you search birth records properly. However, you have to avoid the mistakes.

Mistake #1: Searching Paper Birth Records

When you are doing genealogy, there is no need to look for paper records. This only slows down your search and is a waste of money.

Search birth records online through birth records databases, and you will have much better luck. The records are available in an instant, and they are just as reliable.

Mistake #2: Check the Wrong Names

This is actually a common mistake. Many people forget that when a woman gets married her name changes. Therefore, when they look up her birth record, they look under the wrong name!

If you want to look up a birth record, you might be able to find it under the married name but you will have better luck if you have the maiden name of the woman.

Mistake #3: They Don’t Check Divorce Records

When you are trying to do genealogy, divorce records are your best friend. This may sound odd to you but in fact, they are a wealth of information.

When you look up divorce records, it lists the names of all the children from the marriage along with their ages. You could not ask for a better way to build a family tree than a divorce record. This one document lists everything you want to know. Then you can go pull up birth records from here to get all the minor details you need.

If you avoid these three mistakes, you will see that your family tree will start sprouting branches left and right. It is amazing how fast family comes out of the woodwork. All you need is to sit down and start searching the birth records online today. You will not be disappointed.
