Personal Injury Private Investigators: How to Hire

personal injuryIf you’re being sued for personal injury and yet something smells incredibly fishy about the claimant, the most effective way of discovering the truth is by hiring a private investigator.

Ask for references.
Call on your loved ones, friends, and colleagues for help. Rather than relying outright on the services of unknown private investigators, try looking first for detectives who have already been tried and tested by people you trust. Be careful in choosing which people to ask for help if you wish your need for a personal injury private investigator to remain a secret.

Verify qualifications.
An ideal private investigator for personal injury claims is one who’s licensed and with considerable experience and skills in the specified field. For a private investigator to prove his qualifications, he’ll probably have to submit his license details and a summary of his previous clients and work history. But it doesn’t stop there.

To be on the safe side, make sure to double-check the legitimacy and validity of the investigator’s qualifications. You could be dealing with a wolf in sheep’s disguise for all you know and you’d be in worse trouble than before.

Conduct an interview.
Private investigators have no exclusive rights to interview. As a potential client, you’re certainly within your rights to interview him as well. Ask him any question you like. Your interview may not yield the exact kind of information you need but it will at least help you get to know the other person better. Hopefully, it would be enough to help you decide if you wish to hire him or not.

Check what the media has to say.
The media is not always objective so it’s important to take everything you read, see, or hear with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, there’s rarely smoke without fire so if the media found anything newsworthy about the PI you’re considering hiring, it won’t do you harm to dig for more facts.

Aim for expertise and specialized skills.
Personal injury investigations almost always require surveillance and, to a certain extent, undercover operations as well. You must therefore ensure that the private investigator you’ll hire is adept at both as this will make it easier for him to verify if the personal injuries being claimed against you are valid.

Consider ethical concerns.
Last but not the least, do make sure that the private investigator is strict in complying with the law and observing moral practices in the course of his investigation. This way, if the action you’ve taken comes to light, you know you’re on safe grounds because the PI you’ve hired can give all the necessary evidence to prove that he hasn’t violated any law on your behalf.

Family Law Private Investigators: How to Hire

familyThe process of hiring private investigators is tricky for most first-timers, especially if it’s a family concern and you don’t wish for the general public to be aware of certain matters. If you’re in need of the services of a private investigator, here are a few tips to help you scout out the best.

Choose insured private investigators.
Trust between an investigator and client is always essential, but there’s also nothing wrong with playing it safe. Rather than make yourself vulnerable to any claims in the event that something happens to your investigator in the course of his investigation, you can simply hire an insured P.I. and get rid of such risks immediately.

Stick to licensed private investigators.
Although not all states require private investigators to obtain licenses prior to offering their services, you can at least be assured that those who are licensed have certifiable knowledge, skills, and abilities for their chosen profession. Those with licenses are also bound to be more ethical in their work; you won’t have to worry about your investigator crossing the line and making you liable for any criminal offense.

Prioritize well-established companies.
More years in the business are always good. They’re not prone to make mistakes that novices and amateurs often commit. The years they’ve devoted to their practice also gives them the kind of experience and expertise that new private investigation firms are still trying to achieve.

Well-established companies also have greater resources. In the course of their business, they’re sure to have accumulated a greater number of contacts and have built far stable relationships with them. As such, a veteran private investigator can get you the kind of information that’s normally withheld from most people.

Check their background.
You don’t have to be a P.I. yourself to conduct a background check. When hiring a private investigator, you need to view them as potential employees because that’s what they’ll basically function as if you do avail of their services. That gives you the right to inquire about their employment history. How many clients have they transacted with? Have all their investigations met with success? Can they provide you with references? What do other people have to say about the firm? How do agencies like the Better Business Bureau rate them?

Last but not the least, consult with concerned family members and ask for their opinion. A private investigation will proceed more smoothly if it has the cooperation of everyone concerned, and you can only obtain that if your loved ones concur with your decision.

How to Hire a Private Investigator

private eyeHiring a private investigator is not merely a matter of finding the most popular or affordable investigator in your area. If you are in need for such services because of something you care deeply about, there are other equally important factors you should also take into consideration.

License
Narrow your list to licensed private investigators. Those with licenses tend to have more experience and credentials. A permit to operate as private investigator also allows them greater freedom in their work as well as greater access to various resources, two things that unlicensed private investigators won’t be able to provide.

Insurance
This may be more of a safety precaution than a necessity, but it’s truly better to hire an insured private investigator than one who isn’t. In the event that something does happen, you can at least feel assured he will not hold you liable.

Past Clients
The process of looking for a private investigator is similar to what you would normally do when you’re looking for a suitable applicant. For one thing, you should ask about the previous cases or investigations they’ve completed. Who had they worked for? How did they fare? Would they be able to supply references you can verify?

Experience
Experience comes in various forms, and it’s important that you hire a private investigator with the exact kind of experience you need. The number of years he has dedicated to the business is important, but it isn’t all that matters. You want to be more specific: exactly how many cases has he handled that are similar to or exactly the same with yours? How had he fared in those cases?

This is also where specialization enters the picture. Specialization is something you can only build with time and experience. Look for a private investigator with knowledge and skills pertinent to your case. If you are searching for a corporate private investigator, look for one who may have also worked previously as a corporate manager or at least one who’s greatly familiar with the ins and outs of doing business.

Time Frame
Last but not the least, always ask for a time frame! Being able to give an estimate time of completion as well as letting you know the kind of results you can expect to receive in that period is what separates the amateurs from the pros. And as hiring private investigators can be quite costly – they can charge you from $65 to $200 per hour – it’s better to know approximately how much you’ll have to pay them on the outset.

Types of Services Offered by Domestic Private Investigators

Private investigators are not only hired when there is murder or embezzlement involved. Sometimes, the reason can be much closer to home, and it is in these instances that the services of a domestic private investigator are required.swinger

Cheating Spouses and Infidelity
What people see in TV is indeed true. Private investigators can be hired to find out whether a client’s partner – regardless of the legal status of your relationship – is faithful. This can be proven in various ways, and private investigators usually leave it to the client to determine how they wish to obtain results. The target may simply be subjected to surveillance for a specific period of time. A honey trap may also be provided if necessary, allowing for carefully orchestrated interaction between an undercover agent and the target.

Slander and Libel
There is truly no price for a person’s good name and victims of slander and libel can make use of a domestic private investigator’s services to clear up their names and restore their standing in society. A private investigator will not only determine the person responsible for defaming the client’s character but he’ll also provide substantial evidence against the latter in the event that the client desires to take things to court.

Divorce
Ending a marriage is never easy. It is difficult for all parties involved in various ways, and it becomes especially troublesome when the partners have not separated amicably. Clients who wish to receive a fair settlement from their divorce may hire a domestic private investigator to oversee procedures. Private investigators will leave no stones unturned to ensure that their clients can claim what is rightfully due to them in the case of property and custody.

Custody
Speaking of custodies, domestic private investigators are also often hired by clients wishing to acquire certain data that would make them more favorable in the eyes of the law. In most cases, private investigators will work to come up with evidence that would prove the greater suitability of the client as a parent and consequently, more deserving of custody.

Abuse
Lastly, domestic private investigators may also be employed to determine whether any form of domestic abuse had or has taken place. This is especially important if the client wishes to provide protection for a party he has no legal claim to. This kind of investigation may also be critical when the client has to go against an establishment, like a school or a nursing home – establishments which they won’t just gain constant and immediate access to for any reason.

Honey Traps and Private Investigators

busyHoney traps are one of the most commonly used techniques, not to mention one of the most commonly requested as well, for assessing a person’s fidelity to his or her partner. If you wish to find out whether the person you have a relationship with is faithful to you, a private investigator can help you out with a carefully orchestrated honey trap.

Honey Trap
A honey trap is a contrived incident involving a private investigator and the target. Honey traps are requested by clients who wish to verify the faithfulness of a certain person or, more often than not, their partners. In a honey trap, the private investigator will assume a certain identity before approaching the target. He or she will then use the subsequent events to prove or disprove a person’s fidelity, making sure to provide ample evidence to support the results of the honey trap.

How Do Honey Traps Take Place
When you approach a private investigation firm for a honey trap for your partner, you will be asked several questions to help the firm determine the best agent to use for the investigation. When the right agent is selected and the ideal set-up has been created, the agent will then approach the target. In most cases, the agent will be equipped with a microphone and body camera, and you may then see and listen to what takes place in the ensuing moments.

It will then depend on your agreement whether you wish the agent to merely certain information from the target or have the agent angle directly for a date or assignation. All resulting exchanges of communication, from actual live conversation to phone calls to text messages and Internet chats will be recorded or transcribed for your perusal.

How to Choose the Right Private Investigator for Honey Traps
Honey traps have monumental consequences and that’s why it’s important for you to choose the best person for the job. One thing you should look for experience: just imagine what trouble it could lead to if the investigator you hired end up falling in love with your partner.

Experienced investigators are also able to conduct the entire operation with requisite discretion; your partner shall never know that you doubted him or her to the extent of putting your partner’s fidelity to test.

Last but not the least, the ideal private investigator for honey traps is one who understands the emotional risks that come with such a decision and will thus consult you every step of the way, ready to put a halt to procedures at any time you desire.

Hiring a PI? How Much Would It Set You Back?

Hiring a private investigator may seem like an extreme choice to some but it has helped many people in solving many personal and business-related problems. They are also highly skilled in investigative work, interviewing witnesses and obtaining important documentation and records as evidence. But will hiring a PI cost a lot? And if it does, how much would it set you back? Here are some things you ought to know:

Cost = type of work + expertise
Not every PI will charge the same rate. For general investigative work such as obtaining court records and files, for example, a private investigator may charge as little as $40 an hour. For work that involves locating and interviewing witnesses, the cost may be higher, with some investigators charging as much as $100 an hour, depending on the level of difficulty involved.

An experienced PI can also set you back by several hundred dollars an hour for more intricate investigative jobs. A PI with many years of experience behind him and an admirable track record in the business may even charge you $300 to $400 an hour for an assignment. If he or she has to use specialized equipment, expect to spend more than that.

The type of work a PI will have to perform will also set you back by a lot. If he or she is required to travel, you might have to spend for travel expenses, accommodation and even allowance. If the job is dangerous, a PI will also charge at a higher cost.

Generally, expect the cost of hiring a PI to set you back by as little as $500 for a simple job to about $5,000 for a more complicated job. If the assignment is more complicated and requires time to complete, then expect to pay tens of thousands of dollars for one job alone.

Cost varies
There are different kinds of private investigators for different kinds of investigative cases. You would, for example, hire a PI specializing in computer forensics if you wish to obtain evidence kept as electronic files. If your problem is related to marital infidelity, you will need a PI with sufficient experience in the field.

If the cost of hiring a PI can set you back by an amount you can ill afford, consider carefully if there are other methods of investigation that you can do on your own or at a small cost. If not, then make sure to shop around for a PI that offers a reliable service for the kind of charges you can afford or at least, negotiate a flat rate.

How Private Investigators Solve Cases

Crime scenes are the most challenging things to investigate. The job of a private investigator seems to be a very hard and stressful job because of the pressure one is subjected to especially when doing a heinous crime scene. These professionals are responsible of making sure that all information and evidence are collected from the crime scene that would serve as the answer as to who did the crime.

Typically, private investigators collect material evidences in the crime scene. It is important they do not leave the crime scene without getting enough evidence that would lead to conviction. Because of this, much pressure is on the investigator because there is a need to collect only the important information and not the useless ones. To solve the case, some private investigators come up with unusual ways to find evidences. They have to have, not only intelligence, but also presence of mind and creativity to be able to be instrumental in the solving of the crime.

One of the most unusual would be reconstructing the crime scene and basing the solving of the case on the reconstruction process. This is done by returning to the scene for days or even weeks and tries to reconstruct or live out what complex events lead to the crime. Most of the time, a zero-point is made the point of reference. In murders, it is the murdered body that is used as the zero point.

To be able to be a good private investigator, it is important to have a good eye for detail. What others might think to be ordinary might be something important for the crime to be solved. One unexpected and new way that is used by investigators is brain fingerprinting which has been found to be very accurate. Since DNA and fingerprints are not always found in crime scenes, brain fingerprinting seems to be the answer.

Brain fingerprinting is usually tested on suspects and even on witnesses to know the truth. This is finding out how much one knows about the crime. If a possible witness goes through the test, the choice is narrowed down by either turning the witness into a suspect or confirming that he really is a witness and not the crime perpetrator.

To put it more clearly, brain fingerprinting is a Threat Recognition Test that determines if the subjects recognizes pictures or items that have been found in the crime scene. It is like finding out if that person was present at the crime scene and see how much he knows about the crime.

It is a very difficult profession yet it is full of excitement. Any investigator, whose crime is solved because of his expertise in the way the evidences were found in account of the crime, would feel much fulfillment as he would have helped other people in making their lives less miserable because of the solving of the crime.

Private Investigation Help for Suspected Infidelity Cases

Private investigation has greatly evolved since the days of Sherlock Holmes. If you’ve visualized private eyes to be guys in cloaks with their cameras around their necks while they’re lurking in bedrooms across yours, you’ve a lot to know about today’s brand of spying.Private Investigation and Infidelity

Technology has changed the way private investigators accomplish their work. Now, private eyes can acquire a lot of information on their subjects without even leaving their seats. Thanks to the continuous advancements in technology, private eyes are now able to hack into your computers at home or work, plant hidden cameras in places you frequent, track vehicles by satellite, divert phone calls and even retrieve erased text messages.

Infidelity Boom
One of the most common reasons for people to avail of the services of private investigators is alleged adultery. Couples with reason to suspect their partners of cheating them hire private investigators in hopes of catching bigamous spouses in the act with the help of modern technology and professional spying.

According to Mick Featherstone, a private investigator for Gold Coast firm Phoenix Global and an ex-detective for organized crime, clients desire use of every technology available to produce evidence of a spouse’s act of infidelity.

Infidelity-targeting investigations had already generated big business for firms like Phoenix Global but it still experienced a greater boom in recent years.

Gender Makes No Difference
Based on the number of clients he had entertained over the years, Featherstone believes that men and women are equally inclined to investigate possible acts of infidelity by their spouses.

For clients with reason to suspect their spouses of cheating, Featherstone advises them to try investigating their partners themselves before calling in the big guns. As private investigators can cost you $90 an hour, this is certainly practical and reasonable advice.

The cloak and dagger stuff that people often see in the movies is already a remnant of the past. To know more about your spouse’s activities, Mr. Featherstone suggests by starting with checking credit card and telephone records. Scan the items and see if there is anything to support your suspicions.

Full Service
Of course, paying for a private investigator’s skills can certainly pay off. With a PI working on your case, you can expect a detailed report from transcripts of phone calls and a copy of everything performed on the subject’s computer. And while bugs are illegal to use on targets without letting them know they’re being bugged, guilty subjects rarely pursue legal action.

There’s Still Hope with the Help of Private Investigators

AgentThere are times when the authorities may not be the best source of help, and in the case of six-year-old Colton O’Neal, this is certainly true.

Countless children go missing every year. Some of them are lucky to be found, but many stay on the missing lists, their faces buried under new ones as time passes. Colton O’Neal might have the same unfortunate plight if not for concerned loved ones and the generous and efficient services of a private investigator.

Daniel O’Neal was wanted for sexually molesting his teenage daughter and evading prosecution. Nevertheless, he was able to abscond from authorities and take his six-year-old son Colton with him.

Tracy Gibson, a resident of Griffin, Georgia, and ex-wife to Daniel, teamed up with Olivia Dupree, the boy’s mother in hopes of recovering the boy. The two had launched a website to gain more exposure for the missing the boy. They had already expressed their impatience with the lackluster response from the FBI.  According to the website, an Atlanta FBI agent had informed Dupree that the case “was not a priority” and that he “had other things to do with”. Gibson had been given a similar answer for her inquiries.

WASHINGTON — A 6-year-old Georgia boy is back home in Villa Rica after his fugitive father was discovered hiding out with the boy at a Mexican resort. Daniel O’Neal, who is now in Miami awaiting extradition to Cobb County, faces charges of sexually molesting a teen-age daughter from a previous marriage and flight to avoid prosecution.

From Police to Private Investigators
In the end, Tracy Gibson had to turn to a private investigator for help. She was able to make her acquaintance with a private investigator commonly hired by celebrities. Jake Schmidt had offices in Beverly Hills, California, and he had accepted Tracy Gibson’s case pro bono. Finding missing children was something Schmidt took on several times a year as they were cases that federal authorities commonly considered as an annoyance.

It only took Schmidt less than a month to find the boy. By then, Colton had been virtually missing for a year in a half. Schmidt’s leads pointed him to a Mexican phone number and which later turned out to belong to Daniel O’Neal. The private investigator located father and son in a Mexican resort and when Daniel admitted his identity, Mexican authorities immediately arranged his deportation. Mother and son were then reunited in Miami amidst media frenzy.

The Good and Bad of Hiring a Private Investigator

Peeping TomPrivate investigators don’t always come up with positive results and in Bingham County, this was certainly the case when a group of concerned voters had called in a private investigator in hopes of having their predicament resolved.

On May 27, a Republican Primary Election took place in the town and residents went to the polls to choose which Republican candidate they wish to have as sheriff. Six people were there to safeguard the ballots. When the votes were counted, it was discovered that the order of names in the computer system didn’t match the order of names on the ballot. Votes were recounted twice but ended with the same results.

As the unexplainable error had affected nineteen out of twenty-seven precincts, voters considered the need for a revote. Meanwhile, a group of voters had then hired Neil Leary, a private investigator, to determine the solution to their dilemma. His efforts, however, made no difference in the end. County Clerk Sara Staub believed that Leary’s greatest flaw was not even making an effort to find out the source of the error and how it had been resolved.

County Clerk Sara Staub tells me Leary never even considered how the mistake was made or how it was fixed.

How to Choose a Private Investigator
The chances of getting what you want from a private investigator’s help ultimately depend on whether you’ve made the right choice or not. There are several factors to consider when searching for the ideal private investigator to use.

Resource Availability
It’s best to work with private investigators with the greatest possible access to the necessary resources. In cases of missing children, for instance, it’s not enough for a private investigation firm to have access to legal reports. He must also have access to important forensic equipment and the latest surveillance equipment.

The best resource of all, however, is labor. You want a private investigation firm that employs the most skilled and experienced individuals. You want a private investigation firm whose detectives have genuine passion for their jobs. Finally, you’d want to trust your loved one’s fate in a private investigation firm with enough manpower to work on your case 24/7.

Hiring a private investigator is generally costly although there are times when you’re lucky enough to find a private investigation firm willing to work for free. If you want to save on expenses, however, then you should try contributing in any way you can. Make inquiries yourself.

When you hire a private investigator that doesn’t mean you can stop helping yourself. Rather, use a private investigator to help you in your efforts and you have better chances on achieving your goals.
